So like it says I’ll be moving to Seattle soon, hopefully within a week or so actually. To be frank without trauma dumping I’m in a tough spot, I’m homeless in Kentucky but a friend who works for a Seattle based charity group is helping me get here, she’s gonna help me get set up with help, stay at a hostel while working on stuff, all that good jazz. Already this is a huge upgrade from living in motels in a state where I’m basically fucked so I’m looking forward to it but I am curious if any locals have tips for a lesbian trans woman moving to the city hoping to find some community again and all? I’m not a super high maintenance type, I’m in my mid 30s so not really super looking for the club scene but a nice chill bar would be great. I’m a giant nerd so knowing where good comic and book stores are would be nice, same for any good tabletop/board game stores. Theater also has always been a love of mine so knowing where to see a good show when I’m settled would be great. But yea I guess I’m just asking for a general bit of help, what neighborhoods are affordable and friendly, places that are reliable to find work, any general tips for getting around. I’m sure my friend can help me with this too so I’m not literally alone but it never hurts to ask for more advice right?
The author is a consumer relocating to Seattle and explicitly asks for local tips and resources (community, affordable neighborhoods, work, getting around), which indicates a strong near-term need for services and is likely to translate into hiring/contacting relevant providers.
25 y.o. Looking to make a drastic change, move to PNW, and find a job. (Long story short) I was living abroad after being laid off, trying to figure out what I wanted to do and where I wanted to be, and I was broken up with, so that flipped everything in my life on end. Now I am in a pinch but have always wanted to end up in PNW and thought 'why wait ten years? Why not now?' Well yes, job markets are not fabulous and I've not had luck with online applications (pretty much anywhere) for the past year (with the exception of 1099 work and odd jobs) but I really want to make the leap and know it'll be hard (but I've got a hardcore work ethic). However Seattle Area is expensive, and I don't really know anyone in Washington or Oregon, so I am open to knowing the following: My professional skills range from healthcare to clinical to writing (fiction, copy, non-fiction, human interest pieces), photography/marketing (marketing isn't my favorite), and lots of experience working in emergency/crisis as well as social work. How to network in person for jobs? Where to do this ^ Where is best to live (I know I'll need roommates...maybe like 9), and also if anyone has an idea for jobs? Also, public transit: looking to live somewhere there is access to public transit.
The author is a specific job-seeker planning to move to Seattle/Tacoma and asking for practical leads about where to live and how to network for jobs, which strongly suggests they may pay to hire a relevant local service (though the post is not directly about your business).
Moving to Seattle soon. Looking for recommendations to reputable and affordable local bike shops near North Beacon Hill and surrounding neighborhoods. Somewhere for repairs and servicing of my 3 bikes. Thanks in advance!
The author is a consumer moving to Seattle and is actively seeking recommendations for nearby bike shops for repairs and servicing, so they are very likely to hire a local shop.
Hi! I’m thinking about moving to Seattle and am planning to visit in November. I know that’s a pretty rainy time, and I love the rain, but I’m trying to figure out if I should get a rental or Uber around versus walking or using public transit. Just trying to save as much money as possible, so I’d like to have an expectation of how much I’ll be spending on transport. Also I’m from a flat land area so I don’t have a great idea of how tiring it is walking up and downhill. If it helps, I’m mainly planning to stick to downtown Seattle, all the touristy things, and then I’d like to visit UW campus.
The author is a prospective consumer planning a move to Seattle and asking how to get around and estimate transport costs, indicating a strong near-term need to pay for local mobility options.
People in Seattle who do metal/woodworking, what are your thoughts on the availability of shops or fab lab options in the city? I’m moving to Seattle soon and want to be able to continue working on wood and metal projects.
The author appears to be a consumer moving to Seattle seeking local wood/metal shop or fab lab options, which strongly suggests they may hire or pay for such services.
Hello everyone! We are a mid 30s couple with no kids and 1 dog moving to Seattle most likely in January or February for work and looking for recommendations on where to live! My wife will be working in Kent, while I will be working in Redmond. I'm sure you'll never guess which companies... We are trying to keep the commutes to around 30 minutes (no traffic, obviously i know there will be time and days where traffic sucks), budget will probably be around 800-900k for buying. I love public transportation from living in DC so looking for something near a light rail to travel the city. We do work a little weird hours, 7am-3pm, so traffic isn't too big of an issue I assume Our initial research has led us to Columbia City, its about 25-30 minutes for both of us, right on line 1. But up for any recommendations! We looked at Queen Anne, SLU, and others in that area, but its a bit to far from Kent (and I don't think the light rail really goes to Blue Origin's Campus, but this information is not easy to find)
This is clearly a consumer asking for neighborhood recommendations while relocating for work, indicating a strong near-term intent and likely need for related moving guidance (author is not a self-promoting moving business).
I've lived and worked in the Bay Area (San Francisco) for 6 years. Considering moving to Seattle for a change of scene and a slightly slower pace than SF. What's it like to work and live here? Is it easy to make friends and what are avenues to do that? What's rental apartments like for 1bedrooms?
The author appears to be a consumer considering a move to Seattle and asking practical questions about living/rent, which strongly suggests they may need relocation or moving services, even though no provider is being promoted.
Hi everyone! I just got back from a five day visit to Seattle (and the peninsula) and I've completely fallen in love with the city and surrounding area. My roommate and I are planning to come up from LA next year and I had a few questions about how competitive the rental market is. For clarity, we're looking at West Seattle as our top pick! The vibe there is so wonderful and it seems to be more affordable than the area we're coming from (East LA and Pasadena). We also liked Phinney Ridge/Greenwood, really anywhere close to the city but with a small-town feel. I'd love to know how aggressive the market is up here, if tech layoffs have affected the market, and what housing availability is looking like, or if we should consider reaching out to a real estate agent to find leads. Every apartment hunting experience I've had in LA has been a bloodbath so I'm prepared for the worst haha. (Totally not related but any information about Seattle's goth scene is much appreciated too!)
This is written by a prospective renter (consumer) planning an upcoming move to Seattle and asking about competitiveness/availability and whether to reach out to a real estate agent, indicating strong intent to hire housing-related services.
Hi there! We just bought a house with gorgeous and extensive landscaping, and we are looking for an experienced landscaping company to help with fall pruning. Does anyone have any recommendations for a landscaper you either use or know to do good work? TIA!
The author is clearly a homeowner who just bought a house and is actively seeking an experienced landscaping company for fall pruning recommendations, indicating strong intent to hire.
TSIA: First-timer; Moving soon so want to know what are some apps/websites/FB groups to find ready-to-move apartments (ideally ~20 mins from Denny Triangle). My wife and I are moving to Seattle around end-Sept as she got a gig in the city (after being unemployed for a year so yay!). Since we have never visited Seattle before, we are planning to stay in a ready-to-move apartment for 2-4 months before we find an apartment to settle in. Her office will be at Denny Triangle and ideally she wants to keep the commute ~20 mins by transit. So far our options have been Airbnb or Furnish Finder, but I’d love to know if there are some better alternatives. Bonus: if you have any advice for us, I’d love to hear it.
The author appears to be an individual seeking furnished, ready-to-move apartments in Seattle (a direct prospective customer), indicating strong near-term hiring intent related to furnished lodging/property services.
