I’ve decided the rural life is really not for me. I’m hoping to move to Tacoma this summer (assuming I can find a teaching job?) from the upper peninsula and want to check out some of the stuff it has to offer. What neighborhoods/ places should I check out? Where do a lot of the youngish (early/mid 30s) people hang out? What’s the overall vibe in the city?

I’ve been looking around but i cant find any stores near me with any good boxing gloves. I’ve only seen Dick’s Sportings and Big 5 and there gloves are not the best. Does anyone have recommendations preferably around Everett/Mill Creek area?

I've lived here for a few years and somehow only recently figured out how useful the public stairways actually are. I was walking from Eastlake up toward Capitol Hill to meet a friend. My phone gave me a route that involved going around a bunch of blocks, but I noticed a staircase heading straight up the hill. The Howe Street stairs. I thought, great, a shortcut. About halfway up I was reconsidering several life decisions, but I did eventually make it to the top. And it got me wondering how many other perfectly useful pedestrian connections I've walked past without noticing. Turns out Seattle has hundreds of these things. Some are obvious, but others look like private walkways between houses. I've definitely passed a few without realizing they were public. What's weird to me is that we spend so much time talking about how to make Seattle more walkable, yet there's this entire network of existing pedestrian infrastructure that feels almost invisible unless you already know where to look. Yes, there are dedicated maps and guides. But I'm talking about ordinary people trying to walk somewhere without researching the history of every hillside first. A little sign at the entrance, better integration with walking directions, maybe some information about how steep the stairs are. Nothing particularly revolutionary. And with the wet season coming, keeping them clear of leaves and moss seems pretty important too. I'm not suggesting everyone should be sent up 300 steps instead of taking an accessible route. Quite the opposite. A decent walking map should tell you what you're getting into before you commit. But it seems ridiculous that these shortcuts exist and the most reliable way to discover some of them is having a neighbor tell you about them. Anyone have a staircase in their neighborhood that completely changed how they get around? Also, whoever designed the Howe Street stairs clearly had a personal disagreement with human knees.

I love the tiny little flower shaped chickpea cookies (nokhodchi). They are the best thing ever with a cup of coffee in the morning. Like a decade ago there was a vegan coffee shop in the u district that used to make them in-house, but they’ve been gone for a while now. I get them at Oskoo market in Bellevue, but the ones they had are packaged and made in California. Does anyone know of a market that makes them in the greater Seattle area? Thanks!

Hey all, my name is Steven and I own Turn 4 Detail, a local mobile car detailing company based in Kent, WA. I'm very passionate about the automotive industry and I love making cars look better than the day they took off the dealer lots. I specialize in paint corrections and ceramic coatings, helping restore dull, faded, or swirled paint and bringing back that glossy finish that makes your vehicle stand out. I also offer interior and exterior detailing for those looking to give their vehicle a full refresh! I take a lot of pride in what I do and my goal is always to make your vehicle look as good as possible. If your vehicle is needing a refresh or restoration, I'd love to help out and bring it back to life. Hi, I don’t want to dox myself so I won’t share the details of which street it was or which neighborhood this happened in. I work at a small business and we don’t have a parking lot so we have to parallel park on the nearby street. This street is where we tell our customers to park, and the residents of the nearby homes/apartments also park there, so parking is in high demand and it can feel a little congested at certain parts of the street, but for years I’ve never had any issue with parking there. There are no signs, no red curb, absolutely zero indication that we can’t park there. Yesterday, October 9th, every single person on the street got a parking ticket. The really weird thing is, from discussing it with my coworkers, we all got tickets for different reasons. I got a ticket for expired tabs, stating they expired 06/2025, but my tabs don’t expire until 04/2027. It seems unlikely that could have been a typo on the officer’s part. My ticket didn’t even mention I’m also in trouble for parking there, just mentioned the tabs. My coworker, on the other hand, I think mentioned their ticket did directly mention they can’t park there. I know there can be cases where someone complains about congestion on a street and police come and ticket anyone there to clear it out, and they’ll give you infractions for anything they can think of since it’s not technically illegal to park there. But they didn’t even bother to ticket me for anything concrete? My tabs are displayed perfectly fine, and I always renew my registration in April every year. I'm not sure where they got June from. I hate it but I come from far away for work and public transport is not reliable enough for me to take it every day. We live in a car centric country, you can’t just ticket cars for bogus reasons and expect them to disappear. I ruled out that the ticket could be fraudulent, the number on the ticket is the correct Seattle Municipal Court number and the rest of it looks legit. Obviously I’m going to contest the ticket. I’m fairly young and I’m just confused how this can happen. If anyone more knowledgeable than me knows what the deal is, I’d appreciate any help clearing up my confusion. Mods, if anything in this post is against the rules feel free to remove.
