My wife and I (F28 & F27) currently live in the Olympia area and are moving to Tacoma, and I feel like every time we mention it, we get some version of “Be careful, Tacoma is dangerous” or “make sure you REALLY research the neighborhood.” I’m trying to figure out how seriously to take those warnings. I’ve visited Tacoma multiple times, stayed over night in different neighborhoods, and never have felt unsafe. For context, we’re originally from Houston and lived in Austin for about 8 years before moving to Washington. We’re pretty accustomed to living in larger cities where crime exists, neighborhoods can change pretty drastically within a few blocks, you pay attention to your surroundings, etc. We’ve both lived/spent time in areas that other people would probably describe as “unsafe,” so I think our perception of what constitutes a dangerous area may be a little different from someone who has mostly lived in smaller cities/suburbs. That’s why I’m curious to hear from people who have actually lived in Tacoma, especially anyone who has also lived in larger cities elsewhere. When people say Tacoma is dangerous, are we talking about normal bigger-city problems/crime that might feel especially significant compared to Olympia or other smaller WA cities? Or are there genuinely parts of Tacoma where you feel the level/type of crime is noticeably different from what you’d expect in cities like Houston or Austin? I’m definitely not trying to dismiss anyone’s experiences or pretend crime isn’t a consideration. I’m more wondering whether I’m taking the warnings too lightly because my baseline for “city living” is different. Basically: If I’m comfortable living in Houston/Austin and understand normal city precautions, is there anything about Tacoma that should genuinely give me pause? Or is this mostly a matter of choosing the right neighborhood and having normal city awareness?

My small home airport in CA just started offering direct flights to Seattle and I want to go for a weekend trip in a couple weeks. Locals and lovers of Seattle- in a couple sentences, tell me what you consider to be Seattle’s personality or what makes it special. Yes, I could Google to get a feel for it but I want to hear from actual humans who adore this place.
Hello fellow West-Seattleites. This is a long shot, I know. I'm looking for a good quality dirndl to wear for an Oktoberfest event in two weeks. I'd rather not buy a last minute cheap, polyester, costumey getup, so if anyone in the area has a nice one that they wouldn't mind loaning out, I would love you forever! I will of course get it professionally cleaned afterwards and willing to pay you. I'm looking for anything around a 38 EU/6 US or 40 EU/8 US. My chest is 36", and I'm sure there's some variation in sizing out there. Hit me up if interested or maybe share a photo of the dress in this thread? Thank you!
I’m going to a concert n my mom is looking for a meeting to go to while im gone any info would help thanks
Cross posting here in case any other Seattle folk .igjt have been around for this time, or have any memories of my Dad or his band! I appreciate the help and the eyes !
Id like to do the classroom and pool work here, then do my open water dives later on. I'm willing to pay more for quality instruction. This doesn't strike me as something to go cheap on. Central or South Seattle preferred.
I just moved to university place and I’m looking for a gym that preferably has child care, as well as is somewhat newer. Not any YMCAs or planet fitness. I’m used to body building style gyms and trying to find something similar but I’m not seeing anything online. Can be in UP or Tacoma
Helion this year removed a prediction from its website that Orion, its first commercial power plant, will begin producing electricity by 2028. "We will not, in no universe, have 50 megawatts hit full operation in 2028," Helion public affairs director Jackie Siebens said this summer at the FusionX conference in Boston. Helion's contract with Microsoft requires Orion to at least "be connected to the grid and begin operations by the end of 2028," Siebens said. Two academic papers published this year questioned fundamental assumptions behind Helion's approach, including whether its reactor could produce enough fusion energy to overcome energy losses. ~ The site now says "initial operations," a phrase the company declines to define. The Microsoft deadline did not move. Only the promise did.
Anyone know of a sandwich shop that has chopped liver and onion sandwiches? Zylberschtein’s doesn’t have it on the menu, and there are sadly not enough jewish deli’s around. It’s been ages, and I have a craving. Any good other liver based restaurant dishes work too, I know some of the Wallingford Japanese restaurants have monkfish liver pate and things like that, but nothing hits the spot like a deli liver and onions sandwich.
My best friend quit smoking, quit drinking, and quit 5-hour energy shots. Her final vice is a very particular flavor of Monster. Monster Nitro: Super Dry She moved to Seattle last week and the supply she brought with her is running dangerously low. We tried the Monster Store Locater, no luck. We called BevMo, no luck. We've driven to every grocery store and gas station in Ballard and even drove into Shoreline looking. No luck. So now I am shouting into the void and asking the kind people of Reddit if they can help. Does anyone drink this particular flavor and know where an addict can get her fix? Link to Image
