Currently live in Glendale and like the relative quiet. But find myself often in Highland Park, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Atwater. I drive but would like to do less of that in Seattle if possible. I like the arts, movies, music, karaoke. I guess I'll also learn to love nature stuff. I want wherever I live to feel maybe a little less sleepy and suburban and more the analog to one of the neighborhoods. Looking to rent an apartment or condo. Budget is $4500 or so. Moving in about two months. Will be working downtown near central library. Having public transportation access to my office is a must. My work suggested Belltown, Capitol Hill, Green Lake as areas with public transportation access. Queen Anne seems cool too but idk if there's public transport too. Based on my research, it seems like somewhere a few blocks into Capitol Hill might be a good fit. I'm 36-years-old / single / no kids if that factors into anything, but I really don't care how young or old my neighbors are.

As you may know, watching the Seahawks on TV from the Seattle area is a moving target: sometimes NBC (Sunday night), ESPN/ABC (Monday), or Fox (KCPQ 13) on Sundays, with cross-conference matchups on CBS / KIRO 7. So the Commanders game Sunday was on Fox 13. Am I the only one who shut it down once Fox started airing the Trump propaganda "paid for by the US Government?" Not only is that likely illegal but it feels like a small action I can take to protest what is happening to our country. Yes it's probably a hopelessly small impact, but am I the only one?

[Press release, same information as in link] Pacific Legal Foundation Federal appeals court revives Seattle worker’s racial harassment claim September 28, 2026 A former City of Seattle employee who says the City’s race-focused workplace program fueled years of racial harassment against him won a key ruling today at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The court reversed a lower court decision that had thrown out Joshua Diemert’s hostile work environment claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and Washington state law, clearing the way for those claims to proceed to trial. “Today’s decision sends a clear message: Title VII protects every employee from a racially hostile work environment, regardless of race,” said Laura D’Agostino, an attorney with Pacific Legal Foundation. “No one should have to endure years of racial hostility at work. The Ninth Circuit recognized that the repeated racial hostility Joshua Diemert endured deserves to be heard at trial. We look forward to returning to the district court so that Mr. Diemert can finally have his day in court.” Diemert joined the City’s Human Services Department in 2013. Like all department employees, he was required to take part in the City’s Race and Social Justice Initiative, which included trainings on racial privilege and employee affinity groups organized by race. Diemert says coworkers directed racially charged language at him, trainers told employees that racism is in white people’s DNA, and a supervisor pressured him to give up a lead role so a person of color could be promoted. He resigned in 2021 and sued the City the following year. In its opinion, the court said race-conscious training programs “may violate Title VII when they create a racially hostile work environment.” The court found that the incidents Diemert described were “sufficiently numerous, frequent, and severe” for a jury to decide his hostile work environment claims. The case now returns to the district court.

Last time I did this I had it recycled at the NW Furniture Bank- but I’ve heard they stopped doing that. I’m pretty sure I could take it to the dump or maybe even the city garbage pickup would get it from the garbage area of my building- but I feel bad throwing it away. I’m sure someone could still use it? Any suggestions for donating or recycling? Or do I just accept that I have to trash it? I don’t have a personal FB account so I’m not in any Buy Nothing groups but if thats the best way I could probably find a friend to help. Thanks in advance.

I understand the old owner retired but it seems like the place has fallen off a cliff. I expect reasonable price increases and understand why they can no longer do the happy hour 50% off deal in our current economy, but I go there now and the store is empty almost all the time, with employees who seem irritated to see me. I usually go later in the day but I don’t remember the last time I saw anything in the deli case sushi related that wasn’t a California roll. No more nigiri or sashimi. Other foods that were abundant before like the chicken karaage now only have a few boxes out if any. I saw someone on yelp say the new owners are the children of the old one who retired and are trying to maximize profit margins or something like that, but surely that cannot explain the complete drop in quality, quantity, and the extreme unreasonable increase in prices for many items even outside the deli? I have always seen uwajimaya as a “premium” or pricier option compared to more recently opened Asian food markets in the area like lams seafood and 99ranch, but some of the prices of items at Maruta that they also sold at uwajimaya left me stumped, particularly in the drink case. Does anyone have any insight or possibly alternatives for places to get affordable sushi in the Seattle area? Their quality for the price was unmatched. Thanks!
