Hello! My partner recently moved here and is looking to get a job, but the catch is that due to personal circumstances she can only work part-time for now. I only have full-time experience so I'm not much help - does anyone have any recommendations for job types with half-time hours in the Seattle area? Jobs that are less customer-facing are preferred if possible, and remote work would be awesome. Not looking for specific listings, just asking about what industries would be good.

I'm talking about everyday travel, not a once-a-year road trip. More reliable buses, better connections between transit lines, safer bike routes, less unpredictable traffic, or something else entirely. What's the biggest practical improvement you'd want to see, and on which route or part of the region?
where can i get some good mac and cheese?!?! lobster, chicken bacon, plain, doesnt matter! i feel like i cant find any good spots!

Had about 25 minutes to kill downtown last week between an appointment and meeting a friend. It was doing that classic Seattle thing where it's not raining hard enough to feel like actual rain, but somehow everything you touch is soaking wet. All I wanted was somewhere to sit for a bit. Not a restaurant. Not a coffee shop. Just a bench with a roof over it. I ended up walking around for probably ten minutes before giving up and buying a $6 coffee I didn't really want so I could sit inside. And it occurred to me how stupid that is. We live in a city where damp weather is basically a defining feature of everyday life, yet so many of our public spaces seem designed for the approximately six weeks a year when sitting on an uncovered bench is pleasant. Sure, we have libraries and some genuinely great indoor public spaces. But those aren't necessarily near wherever you happen to be when you need to stop for fifteen minutes. And I'm a healthy adult who can stand around without any real issue. What if you're 75? Or have a bad knee? Or you're waiting for a bus with a tired kid? I'm not suggesting we need heated luxury lounges on every block. Just more basic covered seating. A roof, a bench, maybe a trash can. Something you can use without having to become somebody's customer. I know the immediate response is going to be maintenance, vandalism, and people sleeping there. Those are legitimate issues. But the answer can't always be to make public spaces less useful for everyone. It feels like we've gotten really good at designing places for people to move through and increasingly bad at designing places where people can simply stop. Maybe I'm missing some obvious spots. Are there actually good covered public places around Seattle that don't require buying anything? Or have we collectively accepted that resting in public is now a paid service?
Hey friends! I made a brand new account to keep my identity on my OTHER accounts a bit more hidden, since I'm coming here as myself! My name is Rachel and I was inspired by some posts in Federal Way Facebook groups about needing more fun community events, so I took it upon myself to plan a somewhat spontaneous game of capture the flag. November 7th, 1pm, at Saghalie Park! Here's what I'm thinking: We get a bunch of people to play capture the flag. I'll "host" but that just means that I am going to attempt to organize team boundaries and provide team markers (bandanas? Those cheap plastic lays? Any ideas welcome!) and the "flags." We will split into 2 teams and just have a lighthearted game. I have written out some "rules" that I will put in the comments. All ages welcome, but any children will be expected to play by the rules. This is literally just for fun and to get people outside. This is not in "partnership" with any group, it's literally just me. I will try to be as inclusive and accessible as possible, but there's also only so much I can do. If you don't want to, or are unable to run, maybe you could guard the flag? Guard the "jail"? Be a team cheerleader? Just hang out for the vibes? Why that date? I don't know, I'm free that day and maybe other people are too? 1 pm just seems like a good time to start. Saghalie because it's close to my house, so I am more familiar with it and because I think it'll be easier to split the "territory" in half. I would love to play myself, but can be "referee" for the day! The biggest thing would be that this is literally just for fun. The prize is bragging rights. And maybe friendship???? I don't want to get hung up on logistics and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. If it rains it rains! 100% free and all I would ask is that you return the team markers and don't steal whatever I use for "flags." Play to have fun and don't be a jerk. Is this something people would be interested in????This is kind of a spur of the moment idea and it might be a one time thing, or if it's fun we can do it again! If I end up sitting at the park by myself, then oh well, I tried! Join me! I have a list of rules I wrote out that I can put in the comments! I made a Facebook event page, but I'm not sure if that is allowed here! Mods, let me know if I can share! I also made a new email as a way to contact me, but again, not sure if I can share that here! Send me a message if you want more info!
I moved here a couple months ago for work and just have some work friends. Where do I go to make friends or meet people my age?
I’m curious, has anyone dealt with keeping a total loss vehicle and then going through the Washington State Patrol inspection, re-registration, and re-title? My car recently got rear ended and despite the mostly cosmetic damage, insurance decided it’s a total loss (older German car, expensive parts). It’s totally drivable and doesn’t even look that bad (no cracks or huge dents in bumper) so I’m considering keeping the car instead of surrendering it. Insurance estimated the salvaged value really low even though it’s a fully drivable car so it’s a decent deal if I keep it. Essentially, I can surrender the car and get $10k or I can keep the car and also get 7-8k, and imo the car still drives great and is easily worth more than 2-3k. My only concern is whether all this government paperwork is worth the hassle or not, or if the re-inspection is super difficult to pass or something. I’ve never dealt with this before so really have no idea. Appreciate any advice or tips!
Hi! My wife and I are considering moving to Seattle sometime late next year or early 2028. Im an RN and she’s an SLPA. Just wanted to see what the job market is like for RN’s in Seattle and if anyone knows what its like for SLPA’s as well. Any info is appreciated. Mainly interested in if the the RN pay would be enough to support the 2 of us and our 4 dogs for a small amount of time while my wife looks for a job. Im not crazy worried about finding a job out in Seattle, however, my wife has been working at an outpatient clinic here in Texas and has been wanting to change jobs but is finding some difficulty since there are only a handful of clinics she can work at due to Texas not really employing SLPA’s in hospitals. Which hospitals would be best for me to look into, how fast/slow does onboarding typically take, whats the pay structure like, etc.
