Last night Mayor Josh Amato and 3 other councilmembers voted to reject Eastside Fire & Rescue's modest new budget, which would have helped make up a small amount of lost ground that the department has dealt with after being underfunded for many years. Sammamish has gotten one of the best deals of any fire department in the state for a long time, yet refuses to pay its fair share and join the rest of the cities in the area. Councilmembers Stuart, O'Farrell and Lam voted in favor of the budget, which had already been reduced from the department's original ask. This is clear and not hyperbole: Josh Amato has said openly he understands that the budget changes he recommends could lead to Station 81 (on 212th Ave SE) being closed starting in 2027 on days when there is not sufficient staffing, rather than allowing for overtime. This leaves the entire population in that area having to wait up to 4-5 minutes longer for a responding EMS unit from Sahalee or Klahanie to arrive. For someone in cardiac arrest, this is, without exaggeration, the difference between life and death. Mayor Amato also has stated that he "doesn't know how to run a fire department, and leaves it in the hands of the Fire Chief," and then in the same breath, rejects the plan put forth by the Fire Chief. One of the wealthiest cities in the country is expected to accept a bare-bones, short-staffed fire department. Maybe you're tired of being overtaxed. Maybe you think the fire department gets too much money when all you ever see them is at the grocery store or at Starbucks. May you never need them on the worst day of your life, when minutes and even seconds matter, and you find yourself waiting much longer because Josh Amato decided he wanted to wield his new-found power as Mayor and say no to something just because he could, when he clearly doesn't understand the subject to begin with. Do with this information what you will. The city council surely wasn't going to advertise it to you.

Hey there, my name is Josiah. I am just looking for some on call jobs such as moving, event setup, cleaning, security, chaperoning and other odd jobs to make a little extra money while I work my other job. I work as a maintenance worker and cleaner. And I have worked security jobs in the past. I am an early college student so I am a little busy. Message me if you have something they could take 2 to 5 hours. My only requests are to pay respectfully(like if I’m there for 4 hours and you give me $5 that’s not realistic) and would prefer not to do weeding

Hello fellow West Seattleites! Do you enjoy playing cribbage but can't find many opportunities to play with real people? We are a cribbage club meeting weekly at the West Seattle Eagles banquet room. We've been meeting for two years and are hoping to get the word out so we can continue to grow. We try to play a game every 15-20 minutes to keep the even to about two hours, so we're looking for players with some experience with the game. We play at 6 PM every Wednesday (except the third Wednesday of the month). The format is American Cribbage Congress Grassroots tournament style where we each put $8 in the pot and play six games. You get two points for a win, three for a skunk and 0 for a loss. At the end of the night we tally up the points and the top four players take home a portion of the pot. You can join our mailing list here . You'll get about one email a week reminding you if we're playing or no the following day. The Eagles have taco night every Wednesday so you can even grab a (very reasonably priced) meal of three tacos for $5 Come check it out tonight. Please enter through the back door near the alley of you're not an eagles member.
Hey Seattle, Washington Poison Center here. We're warning the public of counterfeit “Cat’s Claw” herbal supplements that are laced with highly concentrated chemicals related to kratom. These fake products are strong opioids (like morphine, heroin, and fentanyl), and are causing opioid overdoses and severe withdrawal. Poison centers across the United States, including us, are treating sick patients following their use of fake cat’s claw products. Utah Poison Control Center has additionally reported four confirmed deaths involving cat’s claw. Cat’s claw ( Uncaria tomentosa or Uncaria guianensis ) is a legal herbal supplement marketed to manage symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer. On its own, authentic cat’s claw is not psychoactive and does not cause opioid overdose or withdrawal symptoms. However, recent investigations into products labeled as “Cat’s Claw” found undisclosed 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), MGM-15, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (MGPI), and other potent compounds derived from kratom. These mislabeled products are sold in vape shops, gas stations, convenience stores, and online. 7-OH, MGM-15, and MGPI are strong opioids derived from kratom, an herbal supplement with psychoactive properties. While 7-OH naturally occurs in small amounts in kratom, it can be manufactured in a highly concentrated form. MGM-15 and MGPI are semi-synthetic compounds created in labs. As of August 2026, the DEA designated MGM-15 and MGPI as Schedule I controlled substances, making their sale and possession illegal. In adulterated cat’s claw products, these compounds are added at dangerous, highly concentrated levels. All three act on the same brain receptors as morphine, heroin, and fentanyl. Like other opioids, taking too much of these compounds can slow or stop breathing, and regular use can lead to physical dependence and severe withdrawal symptoms. Recommendations: Stop use of “Cat’s Claw” products purchased from vape shops, gas stations, convenience stores, and online retailers. Keep suspected products out of reach of children. Safely dispose of products in the trash or flush them down the toilet (see the FDA’s common drug disposal questions and answers ). Monitor anyone who may have used an adulterated product for extreme sleepiness or breathing too slowly. If you cannot wake them up, call 911 and administer naloxone immediately. Healthcare professionals should consider adulterated products in patients presenting with unexplained opioid toxicity or severe withdrawal. Ask patients specifically about potential use of cat’s claw products. Traditional urine drug screening will not identify these products, but some laboratories are equipped for specialized testing. Call Washington Poison Center (1-800-222-1222) for additional guidance. Report suspected cases or adverse health effects to Washington Poison Center: 1-800-222-1222 (free, confidential, and available 24/7). Here's the shareable version of this post on our website: https://www.wapc.org/insights/safety-alert-fake-cats-claw/ The below photo and title image are examples of products from stores in Spokane. Please note that as of October 7, only Buzzers and Homiez brands of cat's claw have been confirmed via investigations in other states to contain kratom alkaloids. We do not know which brands in Washington are implicated. https://preview.redd.it/al1nbg5wx2uh1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62c17e5111f2ab2a957d44f234ebae9fc00294e7
