Washington Poison Center here. We're warning the public of counterfeit “Cat’s Claw” herbal supplements that are laced with highly concentrated chemicals related to kratom. These fake products are strong opioids (like morphine, heroin, and fentanyl), and are causing opioid overdoses and severe withdrawal. Poison centers across the United States, including us, are treating sick patients following their use of fake cat’s claw products. Utah Poison Control Center has additionally reported four confirmed deaths involving cat’s claw. Cat’s claw ( Uncaria tomentosa or Uncaria guianensis ) is a legal herbal supplement marketed to manage symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer. On its own, authentic cat’s claw is not psychoactive and does not cause opioid overdose or withdrawal symptoms. However, recent investigations into products labeled as “Cat’s Claw” found undisclosed 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), MGM-15, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (MGPI), and other potent compounds derived from kratom. These mislabeled products are sold in vape shops, gas stations, convenience stores, and online. 7-OH, MGM-15, and MGPI are strong opioids derived from kratom, an herbal supplement with psychoactive properties. While 7-OH naturally occurs in small amounts in kratom, it can be manufactured in a highly concentrated form. MGM-15 and MGPI are semi-synthetic compounds created in labs. As of August 2026, the DEA designated MGM-15 and MGPI as Schedule I controlled substances, making their sale and possession illegal. In adulterated cat’s claw products, these compounds are added at dangerous, highly concentrated levels. All three act on the same brain receptors as morphine, heroin, and fentanyl. Like other opioids, taking too much of these compounds can slow or stop breathing, and regular use can lead to physical dependence and severe withdrawal symptoms. Recommendations: Stop use of “Cat’s Claw” products purchased from vape shops, gas stations, convenience stores, and online retailers. Keep suspected products out of reach of children. Safely dispose of products in the trash or flush them down the toilet (see the FDA’s common drug disposal questions and answers ). Monitor anyone who may have used an adulterated product for extreme sleepiness or breathing too slowly. If you cannot wake them up, call 911 and administer naloxone immediately. Healthcare professionals should consider adulterated products in patients presenting with unexplained opioid toxicity or severe withdrawal. Ask patients specifically about potential use of cat’s claw products. Traditional urine drug screening will not identify these products, but some laboratories are equipped for specialized testing. Call Washington Poison Center (1-800-222-1222) for additional guidance. Report suspected cases or adverse health effects to Washington Poison Center: 1-800-222-1222 (free, confidential, and available 24/7). Here's the shareable version of this post on our website: https://www.wapc.org/insights/safety-alert-fake-cats-claw/ The below photo and title image are examples of products from stores in Spokane. Please note that as of October 7, only Buzzers and Homiez brand cat's claw has been confirmed via investigations in other states to contain kratom alkaloids. We do not know which brands in Washington are implicated. https://preview.redd.it/vvi3eh40x2uh1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a36a0b0c16146983c71c65b4d25d78f8e67291a
My friend and I are planning to visit Mount Rainier, and we’re trying to decide whether to go on our own or book a tour with Evergreen Escapes. We’re both tourists and neither of us has been to Mount Rainier before. We’re not super experienced hikers, but we’re both in good shape and were thinking about hiking the Skyline Loop from Paradise. The alternative would be joining an Evergreen Escapes day tour. My only concern is that we want to hike and experience the park on foot, and I’m a little worried that a guided tour might involve more driving around and shorter stops rather than doing a proper hike. Has anyone done the Evergreen Escapes Mount Rainier tour? How much actual hiking did you get to do? And for people familiar with Rainier: would you recommend two first-time visitors doing the Skyline Loop on our own, or would the guided tour be the better option? Edit: we want to go tomorrow

Tried to do a DIY wolfcut at home last night and completely botched the job. Anyone know a stylist in the north seattle area that can fix it so i stop looking like trans Anton Chigurgh?
When I tell people how much I pay in rent they say it’s an absurd amount, but when I go to look for a new apartment they’re all around the same price. How much are you all paying for the place you rent? If you could also include how many bed/baths the apartment has for reference that would be great. I have a suspicion that the people saying I can find a cheaper place have not rented in the area in a long time, but maybe I am overpaying.
Hey there Seattle community. After 30 long years of collecting, my Pokémon card collection needs to go up for sale. I was an avid collector as a kid in the 90s and early 00s, but never, ever used my cards to play. Nice cards to sleeves and everything else promptly organized into my endless variety of binders by generation. The world is much different now than it used to be and with our inter-connected network of businesses and collectors here in WA, I’d like to know if anyone has any suggestions on where to go and what to do to sell my cards productively. Please, help a hermit, Seattle friends. If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears. I’m located in South sound, but happy to travel anywhere between Seattle and Tacoma for the right person, collector or business.
I just moved here and I’m wondering where the 35-50ish singles hang out, other than bars!
