I’m just wondering, How should Seattle balance recovering taxpayer money with fairness to employees who received incorrect pay—and should the city independently verify both overpayments and underpayments, while explaining who was responsible for the $13.1 million error? It’s sounds unfair to the cops but also what about the money that was just lost by the King county regional homelessness authority? Unless I’m mistaken otherwise.

I have a LifeWise WA Bronze policy and it is absolute garbage. It pays for almost nothing, and customer service is basically nonexistent. Washington recently approved a 22.5% rate increase , so I assume my premium is going up by roughly that amount for 2027. I’m currently paying $1,700/month for a family of 3. The out-of-pocket maximum is $10,500. So my annual exposure is: $20,400 in premiums $10,500 out-of-pocket maximum $30,900 total That may as well be bankruptcy for a middle-class family. I’m paying over $20,000 per year for coverage and could still be on the hook for another $10,500 before the plan provides meaningful protection. According to this chart, 281,000 people are affected by these rate increases. This is a disgrace of epic proportions, and people should be outraged. The practical choices for anyone on the ACA are: Pay an enormous amount for coverage and then avoid care because of the cost. Find an employer-sponsored plan. Drop income low enough to qualify for public coverage. The ultimate irony is that I could quit my job, make $0 income, qualify for Apple Health, and get essentially free care. I’m not saying people shouldn’t have access to healthcare. Obviously they should. But it is completely perverse that working and earning more can leave someone paying $20,000+ per year for insurance, with another $10,500 in potential costs, while earning nothing can make healthcare essentially free. This system is creating a massive incentive to either stop working , avoid care completely, or find an employer willing to subsidize healthcare. If 281,000 people in Washington are dealing with this, it deserves a lot more attention than it is getting. https://www.insurance.wa.gov/about-us/news/2026/average-222-rate-increase-approved-washingtons-2027-exchange-health-insurance-market

It was brutal :( My boyfriend and I followed it because we were afraid it was going to be killed. The dog was frightened/defensive and barking, so we couldn't safely grab it. We eventually corralled it back toward the property where it appears to live, but it continued running back out into the street, and we had to keep trying to direct it away from traffic. I spoke with neighbors who told me that seeing this dog outside unattended is a recurring issue. I reported what we saw to Seattle Animal Control, but they said there wasn't much they could do based on this incident beyond notifying the owner about the leash laws. They said the best thing I could do was post this on social media. I'm hoping to find other people who have personally seen this dog loose in Magnolia. We saw it near the intersection of 22nd Ave W and W Barrett St. If you have, please consider making your own report to Animal Control with the date, time, location, and what you witnessed. Multiple firsthand reports may help establish that this is an ongoing issue rather than a one-time escape. I'm sharing this because I'm really concerned for the dog's safety and hoping that documenting the pattern can help prevent something awful from happening.

Hey all, I feel very out of my depth, just wanted some advice as a soon to be graduate trying to get into the field where they want to live. Context: I had 2 internships over the past 2 summers in Seattle with a large accounting firm, but did not get the return offer back. I really want to live in the PNW, I fell in love with the area when I was living there My issue is finding entry accountant roles. Obligatory job market is bad, but it feels impossible to find a position that I'm qualified for. I just need some advice from those that may have faced similar in helping a young spring chicken try to get where they feel is home.

Hello accordionists and accordion enthusiasts! Another Tacoma Accordion Gathering is just around the corner. The group will be getting together this Sunday, October 11th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland. The social is open to all accordionists and fans and even the accordion-curious. If you enjoy accordion playing or just want to support friends and neighbors as they gain experience performing in front of a crowd, you're welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to perform should show up a half hour before the performances begin. There's a sign-up sheet for everyone who would like to take a turn performing. You need not be a polished professional; we encourage those who are still learning or even just getting started on the accordion to share what they can do. All free-reed instruments are welcome: accordion, concertina, bandoneon, etc.

I have a client who wants a very nice guest towel for use in their retail store. Cloth with a nice expensive feel. Is there anyplace in the Seattle area such an item can be found? I've tried searching and find no options. Time is of the essence because I need to get them embroidered (I have someone) before the store opens later this month. I want local because the client needs to feel a sample and I can't spend time and cost getting something shipped in at this point.

I see that Third Place Books is bringing in author Jamie Lorente for the launch of her memoir, My Three Fathers on October 8. I read it in an earlier stage. Fascinating stuff, really especially if you grew up in the Pacific Northwest, as the story bounces from Seattle to Eugene to Portland as she searches to reconnect with her biological father, a Cuban exile; her Cherokee-Jewish stepfather; and later, her Iranian stepfather. But really it's the search for her Cuban father that is at the center of things. Though there is also a very suspenseful passage where once when stranded and in need of a ride she unwittingly finds herself picked up by the notorious Green River Killer who haunted the Pacific Northwest between 1982 and 1998. The writing there has a cinematic quality, which makes sense, since the author also teaches scriptwriting. I also very much liked this section where she describes a moment with Juan (her Cuban father) "Later, when I am home, I study the picture of us, blurred by mist, taken at the Ballard Locks. We stand side by side. The ship passes behind us. Our heads tip slightly toward each other's, though mine a bit more. Our right legs cross over our left legs. We each lean a little to our right. Though we did not intentionally pose this way for this picture, we stand in exactly the same way, hold ourselves in the same way, as the other. The illusion of us. We look like a father and a daughter." https://thirdplacebooks.com/event/jamie-lorente
