I am in search of work. I have about a decade of retail/customer service experience and am 100% willing to go back into retail but would also absolutely love the chance at something less public-facing. Besides the current state of the job market, my issue is that I have nystagmus, which is obviously very noticeable, and have been told it is "off-putting," and in the past I have been scolded about my eyes bothering patrons and had customers not believe I'm capable/qualified to do my job. I have also had employers just assume that I am completely blind and wouldn’t be capable of much, which isn’t true, so I am just looking for someone willing to give me a shot at stable work. I’m sorry if this doesn’t make much sense I’m a bit sleep deprived.

Roosevelt neighborhood. We want to join you! We are considering taking over a restaurant in the Roosevelt area. For now, I can't say which one. But, we want to get some input and ideas from folks in the area. Ever since the covid era, it seems like most restaurants, and even many bars, shut down by 10pm. We want to change that. We would like to create a fun, friendly spot where friends can meet in the evening for great happy-hour options. We want to create a place that's not a dive bar. Rather, more of a chill "lounge" feel, house music, etc. And most-importantly, we want to foster an atmosphere where you are not just a customer, but where you feel like you are friends with the staff. (yeah, i know that might sound cliche, but we are serious. We want to build friendships with our customers and we want to be involved in helping the community through outreach, cleanups, etc). So, give us your thoughts! (And no special thanks to the mods over at the never-friendly r/Seattle for swiftly taking down my post for unreasonable reasons. Keep shining!)

This is the right turn to head north onto I-5 (although right now the ramp is closed). It's not visible on this streetview image but there are two "No Turn on Red" signs, including a new one that is very bright. But people turn right on red all the time. People behind you honk if you do not turn right on red. Clearly the city and the people disagree on this one, and I am legitimately not sure what the best protocol is. Ignore the signs because this is a high traffic intersection and we gotta keep moving?

It should be socially acceptable to insult drivers who cause accidents on the freeway for causing unnecessary traffic jams, while wishing them to be ok...add a little insult to injury so people stop driving like they got their license as the prize from a box of Cracker Jacks...20 minute backup because of one ignorant person...when thousands have places to be...sorry if that's crude but I know we're all tired of it

I’m thinking about spending around 4 weeks in Seattle this November while working part-time 4 days a week, so I’d have about 12 full days off to explore (plus evenings). I really love hiking and nature and I’d also love to see the coast. The problem is, that I won’t have a car & I’m under 21, so renting one would probably be pretty expensive. I’ve also heard that some of the seasonal buses & shuttles to hiking areas stop after summer. So my main worry is that I’ll eventually run out of things to do or feel really limited without a car. (+weather??) I’m have also considered doing New York + upstate New York + Montreal instead. That would be more expensive and involve a lot of long bus, but I feel like it might be easier to keep myself busy. So if you were in my situation, what would you do? Seattle for the month or go East? Completely different ideas are welcome too. I know November isn’t ideal for hiking, but it’s the only time I have and I need to stay relatively close to Canada since I’ll be spending the winter there.

Sturdy Gertie, the westbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge built in 1950 We've got good news, bad news, and not-so-surprising news. The good The expansion joints on the 1950 Tacoma Narrows Bridge, the ones causing most of our emergency lane closures, are scheduled to be replaced next year. Additional preservation funding through 2031 will also help keep Sturdy Gertie operating for years to come. The bad In the meantime, we’re still dealing with short-term emergency fixes. There’s a big fix to a joint coming later in October -- a partial joint replacement near the Tacoma side. We’re replacing part of the joint and it will require two weeks of around-the-clock westbound lane closures . The not-so-surprising Emergent joint work will likely be the norm until we’re able to replace them next year. We use the bridge daily and know what this means for everyone traveling from Tacoma to Gig Harbor during the afternoon commute. More details about the ailments of our beloved Sturdy Gertie, what’s in the works, and tips on how to avoid the biggest backups are in our latest blog about the bridge: The WSDOT Blog - Washington State Department of Transportation: Aging bridge joints: Sturdy Gertie in Tacoma needs a total knee replacement
