They have banded together online, filing complaints that are spurring investigations by Seattle Police and other agencies into the principals of the firm that owners say has withheld more than $1 million from them. [...] Just those 18 complaints detail almost $280,000 in unpaid rents and held deposits. [...] If there are 130 property owners and similar amounts are unaccounted for, the total could be over $2 million. There is now a state investigation under way at the Department of Licensing, where owners say they have filed 35 complaints. [...] Their database shows 33 complaints filed against Dwellings this year, with 23 of them filed in just the last week. ~ A designated broker walked out on September 3 and the closing affidavit was filed the same day. That paperwork is the only tripwire in the system, and it went off after the money was already gone. The tenants whose deposits were held did not get a vote in any of it.

Hey All! Another Halloween question! Is the “Boo” event worth going to? People like it? Anyone gone by themselves? Or is it better to go bar-hopping or the clubs or other events for Halloween? Thanks!!

Time for a “back in my day!” rant from a 40 something Sammamish resident about checkers at Safeway… I go for my biweekly shopping trip at Safeway at 5:30 pm after work. I get to the register with a VERY full cart (and even managed to pack my own bags) at 6:00 and there no check stands open. And there are two long lines waiting for self checkout, with other very full carts. I understand people have the rights to breaks but having a single person handling all of this at that time of day is ridiculous. Why can’t they staff more than a single person for a check stand on a shift at the peak time of day? And why can’t the manager, casually chatting with a customer today, walk over and do the checking in the place of the worker on break at a peak time like this? It’s maddening. There’s no room at any of the self checkouts multiple bags of your own. The check stand is made for big grocery trips, which are still a thing, but the Sammamish Safeway doesn’t care anymore. Going to QFC across town, or Trader Joe’s, or Met Market from here on out. Anywhere with checkers.

Hey guys I am trying to find the best company with excellent workers for some home help. Light cleaning shopping maybe driving my step dad to appointments. The company must run background checks. It would be preferable if the worker had family that was in law enforcement as the patient used to work for the police department. Any ideas for Puyallup? Money isn't an issue. Thank you guys so much.

Whether you did, or did not feel the Magnitude 4.2 earthquake this afternoon, with its epicenter on the Kitsap Peninsula, please fill out the “Did You Feel it?” Report on the USGS page for this event. Yes, even negative responses are important! Knowing what did, or did not shake in an earthquake helps earthquake scientists gather additional information about how the ground in different areas responds during shaking, which can help to better understand earthquake hazards! We (emergency managers at the state) really like these small, friendly reminders that Washington *is* in fact earthquake country, and that being prepared for quakes is wise. It’s easy to forget when it’s been a while, and other hazards and world events take precendence, but it’s important to get reminders that yes, we do have earthquakes, too. I promise, I didn’t plan that. (…I can’t do that). But we do have a statewide earthquake drill scheduled for 10:15am, Oct. 15! And you can join us. It’s called the Great Washington ShakeOut **This quake brings a couple fun, relevant earthquake facts to mind.** For one, an earthquake is going to feel different, and provide a slightly different experience to everyone who feels it. That’s a measureable factor called earrthquake “Intensity,” and it’s measured on the Mercalli Intensity Scale ). This scale describes the earthquake shaking felt at certain locations, in terms of the shaking felt, the objects potentially damaged, and the felt experiences of people in the area. When it comes to planning for earthquakes, and knowing what to expect during an earthquake, intensity is *far* more important than magnitude. Each earthquake has one magnitude, but a wide variety of intensities – and these intensities, put together on a ShakeMap can help those of us who work in planning understand for a variety of earthquake scenarios, what type of shaking we can expect to feel, and what type of damage we might need to respond to. If you want to look into a variety of earthquake scenarios that can impact Washington, check out the USGS’s Washington Seismic Scenarios Catalog, with a variety of ShakeMaps for mapped faults across Washington. These can be a useful planning tool to understand what to expect. While this quake was small, it’s important to know what the worst case scenario could be. More on earthquake intensity and its importance in this short video!
