Are we too early to start planning a Halloween-y October? I'm hoping to plan with a friend in advance so they can travel out here. 🎃 Anyone know some fun things to do, especially NOT on Halloween itself? 🧡

Is my apartment the only one that gives you a container to deposit your uneaten food into? I immediately took the container to the parking garage and abandoned it. I'm apparently good at not wasting food. Recently it occurred to me that this could be yet another wacky city/county mandate. Please tell me it isn't. I mean, who would have a nasty container with rotting food in it in their apartment?
Columbia City has a litter problem! I have collected 25+ bags of garbage around the area in just a month. A few people have asked how they can help contribute and I'd like to share the wonderful Adopt-A-Street Program ran by the City of Seattle. You can sign up to adopt a street, request and receive all the necessary trash cleanup supplies, and once you've done your trash cleanup report it and the trash bags will get picked up for you! If you have any questions feel free to click the link or ask me and I can hopefully point you in the right direction. https://www.seattle.gov/utilities/volunteer/adopt-a-street
Hi everyone! Been a Seahawks fan my whole life (2nd generation) but have never been to Seattle. Me (29) and my cousin (19) are headed to see them play the niners on the 11th, and I was trying to find some cool things to do, and to see if there is anything tailored specifically for Seahawk fans. Any spots people get together the day before a game, or even Seahawk themed places? Caveats: We can’t really go out and experience anything 21+, and we’ll only really have one full day to do stuff. We also are not planning on renting a car, and were primarily going to use the Link/light rail (especially from SeaTac - hotel has a station a few blocks away). I would love to do things like the underground tour, or go hiking, but my cousin is more into the Seahawks experience and I can always come back another time. We do plan on seeing the Space Needle, Pike Place, and most of downtown Seattle, but I wasn’t sure if there was any cool experiences, places, or art around the city we can see that best represents the 12s. As far as gameday experiences go, I decided to go all out so no major concern for that. I don’t think we’ll ever have another opportunity to come back together anytime soon, due to work, school, and life schedules, would really like to make this as memorable as possible for us (and mainly my cousin). Also, any other advice is GREATLY appreciated. GO HAWKS!
With health insurance open enrollment and the FSA/HSA election periods coming up, a lot of people are thinking about dental costs, so it seemed like a good time to share some numbers from Consumers’ Checkbook’s recent undercover price research into Seattle-area dentists. Many of us shop around for the best prices on everything from groceries to big-ticket items, but did you know you can compare dentists’ prices, too? Most of us find a practice and stick with it, but if your dental plan has low payouts or if you don't have insurance at all, before agreeing to an expensive procedure consider contacting other practices to see what they charge. As you can see, different Seattle-area dentists charge drastically different fees for the same procedures, and selecting a lower-cost practice can save you hundreds of dollars a year. We also found that the most expensive practices DO NOT necessarily receive the highest ratings from patients for overall care. Another big potential saver? The most underused consumer tool in dentistry is to get a second opinion. We often hear complaints from patients who say their dentist recommended unnecessary care; for example, replacing all their old fillings. If you've got a bigger procedure ahead of you, it could be worth calling other practices for prices or getting a consultation from a dentist you don't normally see before you commit. The extra homework could save you some serious cash. We're Consumers' Checkbook, a nonprofit that has been doing hands-on consumer research in the Puget Sound region for over 20 years. The full breakdown of our undercover price research for dental procedures, including how local dentists rank, is on our site. Happy to answer any questions about how we approached this project.
Hi folks, UPDATE: case # 26-285081 I know this is a loonnngg shot, but my roommate’s car got stolen last night (9/23) between 10pm-7am on 53rd and 11th in Ballard. Blue 2010 Rav4, license #Bzh7910, stickers in photo. If you know of any good etsy witches, also let us know. Her bike got stolen a couple months ago as well and we’ll try anything at this point to lift the curse. Seattle PD said they would have to call back to get a case # going and collect details. They also said it could take until 11pm to get back to us…. :/ She unfortunately had her skiing setup for the winter in her car topper as well… absolutely devastating to say the least. Every share/like might help, so thank you kind souls in advance.
hey! a car in front of us just ran over an eastern grey squirrel - they are still alive but dragging their back legs 🥺 they are under a car on the east side of the street on ravenna ave NE & NE 53rd st. I’m on crutches, I tried to help them but they dragged themselves under a car and I can’t get to them. I had an appt around the corner and was going to be late so had to leave them. Can anyone help them? Grab them and take them to Sarvey? I called them and they said they are the only ones around here that take Eastern greys
TLDR; I was quoted $31k for stormwater infiltration trenches on an 800sf addition to our home. Is this normal? Reasonable? Are there other options? ----- We are planning an 800sf bump-out on our 800 sf house. The addition had a mandatory SDCI Drainage Review. According to our city-approved plans, they are requiring us to install: Front yard: 5' x 2' footing drain infiltration trench. Back yard: 60' x 7' infiltration trench plus catch basin work. Our contractor hit us with the line-item quote for the stormwater portion, and it is a big blow into our budget, roughly $30k. Stormwater Pit Test: $2,500 Infiltration Trenches & Catch Basin: $28,450 (Includes clay soil removal/disposal, geotextile fabric, gravel backfill, and drain line installation). Our yard is pretty clay heavy, so i get that digging and hauling that much dirt away is labor-intensive, I guess my questions are for anyone that's dealt with SDCI on thier remodel: does this pricing seem standard? Are there any alternative solutions we could pivot to? Any ways to offset the cost? Can city rebates like RainWise offset this? Not sure if it applies when the infrastructure is legally mandated by a code review for an addition. Thanks in advance!
Howdy y'all, I'm in need of a shop to do an oil change on my Suzuki. I bought the stuff to change it myself, but the previous mechanic rounded the corners off of my drain plug really bad (which I subsequently made worse by trying to take it off myself), and I don't have the tools to extract. Any recommendations?
