I’m visiting Seattle soon for work (beer stuff in Yakima), and one thing I really love to do is to search out unique sounds to capture as part of my field-recording practice. Are there noises or sounds that you think are unique to Seattle that you could recommend? They don’t necessarily have to be nice sounds! My practice and equipment allows me to focus on underwater, electromagnetic, subsonic, plain old atmospheric (ORFT stereo or M/S), physically transmitted sounds (via contact mics) and ultrasonic sounds, so please suggest anything at all you think might fit this bill. In London I previously spent some time recording on the intertidal zone of the Thames capturing sounds of mud-larking. In Hong Kong I’ve captured everything from bats to the trams and Star ferries. In the Faroe Islands I captured the sounds of wind farms and wind howling so hard it played a whistling tune. In Manchester I’ve recorded bees feasting on sunflowers, unidentified underground insects, and even the sound of moss!

I recently received a job offer with a starting salary of $100k in Tacoma and am weighing up whether to accept it. I’m 23, single, no kids, no car payment and $8k in student loans. I like fishing, hiking, and cooking, all of which I believe aren’t too expensive activities. What kind of quality of life can I expect to have on that wage here in Tacoma? Housing, food, gas, etc. all seem to be among the higher end in the nation in Washington. How much of a difference is the COL in Tacoma vs Seattle? I’ll be coming from El Paso, TX which is on the lower end in terms of COL so i’m expecting a big sticker shock if I relocate. Even so, i’m tired of Texas and want out. I’ll be working near the port and am also looking for apartment/suburb recommendations and prices I can expect to pay for a studio/room/apartment. Any input is appreciated.

We are trying to sell my late mom's house and now the buyer is getting hung up on a possible mold smell in the downstairs bathroom. Nobody else can actually smell it, but I have a terrible nose so that doesn't really tell me much. My parents were pretty on top of home repairs, but after my dad died it is possible my mom just stopped noticing a small leak. Now I am trying to figure out if this is actually a mold problem or if the buyer is being overly cautious. I need recommendations for remediation companies that can actually find the source instead of just treating whatever is visible. Would cameras, infared, moisture testing or something similar make sense here? I have seen people mention seattle mold solutions and roto rooter, but I would rather hear from people who have dealt with this around Fremont. Trying to get this checked out without turning a possible small bathroom issue into a giant expensive project.
