Just spotted someone’s white dog looks like a husky mix running with a black harness on up E Denny Way! Headed toward the intersection by M2M. Maybe went to Cal Anderson but running loose. Not sure if someone stopped the dog or not, lots of people out and about seeing it go down. Hope this helps the owner find the dog!
Hello, I am travelling to Seattle in a couple of weeks to go to the Moore theatre on a Friday night and I usually drive right down to the convention centre and then walk from there but I think the traffic will be a nightmare. Is the 1line from lynnwood the best alternative? Anything I should know? Cheers!
Curious if anyone knows of any good dinner spots to bring a baby? Ample stroller space/not super tight, plus a nice changing area potentially. We’ve been going out as usual but some of our favorite spots are not the most accommodating for baby. Thanks!
Hey all, I’m going to the ice cube concert tomorrow and my ticket is in the pit. How early should I get in line to try to get the absolute front row since the pit is GA. What gate do I use? I have the concert ticket in my apple wallet is that the same one for the fair admission? I don’t go to concerts often so any advice is helpful.
I've been wondering about the double standard. In Seattle, political disagreements are often framed around liberal values, women's rights, homosexuality, religious influence, and individual freedom. Yet Palestine has become one of the biggest political causes in the same political culture, despite documented attitudes in Palestinian society that raise serious questions about those same values. Some of the numbers are hard to ignore. The Palestinian territories are overwhelmingly Muslim. Pew found that 89% of Palestinian Muslims surveyed supported making Sharia the official law of the land. Among Palestinian Muslims who supported Sharia, 76% supported punishments such as whipping or cutting off the hands of thieves, 84% supported stoning adulterers, and 66% supported executing people who leave Islam for another faith. And Sharia isn't only about criminal punishments. Classical Islamic law addresses marriage, divorce, inheritance, and family life. Pew found that only 43% of Palestinian Muslims surveyed supported equal inheritance for sons and daughters. There are also documented problems involving the treatment and protection of women and girls. UNFPA reports sexual violence, intimate-partner violence, child marriage, and so-called honor killings in the Palestinian territories. It has also documented girls being married as children and having little decision-making power within some families. Classical Islamic jurisprudence recognized a husband's sexual rights within marriage and generally did not recognize forced sex by a husband as a distinct crime of marital rape in the modern legal sense. Pew also found that only 4% of people in the Palestinian territories said homosexuality should be accepted by society, while 93% said it should be rejected. Then there's October 7. A Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research poll conducted November 22 to December 2, 2023 found that 72% of Palestinians surveyed said Hamas's decision to launch the October 7 offensive was "correct." The question concerned the decision to launch the offensive itself. And then there's Muhammad. Traditional Islamic hadith sources report that Muhammad married Aisha when she was six and consummated the marriage when she was nine. Traditional chronology places Muhammad in his mid-50s at the time. He had sex with a nine-year-old child. That is child rape. Muhammad was also responsible for permitting his followers to have sexual intercourse with female captives. Sahih Muslim describes Muhammad's companions taking female captives, wanting to have sex with them, and asking Muhammad about contraception during intercourse. His response did not prohibit the sexual relations. Another Sahih Muslim report explicitly describes intercourse with female captives as permissible, including women who had husbands. Traditional Islamic sources also describe Muhammad himself as having sexual relations with enslaved or captive women. There is also the traditional account of Banu Qurayza, in which up to 900 men were executed and roughly 1,000 women and children were enslaved. And Muhammad is not merely a historical figure in Islam. The Qur'an describes him as an "excellent pattern for believers," and he is regarded within Islam as a perfect model of conduct. Child marriage is relevant here as well. UNFPA has documented child marriage in Palestine and, more recently, a rise in child marriage in Gaza amid the current crisis. If Palestine gained full sovereignty, an independent Palestinian government would have greater authority to determine and enforce its own laws concerning marriage, women's rights, religious law, criminal penalties, and family law. What those laws would ultimately become would depend on the government and institutions established there. The Palestinian Basic Law already states that Islam is the official religion and that the principles of Islamic Sharia are a principal source of legislation. At the same time, it describes Palestine's governing system as democratic and based on political and party pluralism. So when I hear “Free Palestine” repeated constantly in Seattle, I think there's a question that deserves a serious answer: Free Palestine to become what?
Moms: has anyone gone to the tots on the trail in point defiance? How is it? Online it says Fridays, I’m assuming regardless of season/weather. I want to take my 13 month old, and potentially have the local moms that walk group have an event there. My son has got great receptive language so I know he’d love to listen to the park guide talk about things 😅
I’m moving here for work I’m coming from a small town but don’t love small towns. Where is the best place to live outside of Everett and raise 3 young kids while working in Everett? We value nice homes that aren’t $1M, great school systems, space, we also like being in places that have plenty of things to do. We love more of a city vibe than a small town vibe but safety and schools are top priority. We would love some recommendations.
Hi all, I was wondering if anybody was following or impacted by Tacoma’s deficit and the city manager’s “Road to Recovery.” I started listening to his appearances on the city of Tacoma podcast feed and it really sounds like there’s going to be some tough decisions across the board to address the city’s deficit. Would love to get thoughts from city employees and residents. I moved out of Tacoma a few years ago but still own my house in hopes that I can return one day. The city will always be home to me so I like to keep my finger on the pulse as much as possible. Thanks!
I haven't been to a music concert at the Paramount before last night. It was so so so loud. Don't forget your earplugs. I left mine at home and regretted it for 98% of the event. The lady sitting two seats to right got up and left in tears. I watched other concert goers also get up and leave. As a side note to how unbelievably loud the concert was, the event got out around 10:30p. and Lightrail was closed going out of Westlake (track maintenance) so we had to grab the Northbound Shuttle from 3rd and transfer at the Capitol Hill station. The Southbound shuttle was boarding on Pine between 4th and 5th.
