I’m looking to relocate further north for work and looking at a little west of Phinney Ridge/Greenwood, or living by Green Lake next to the high school and Park & Ride (by the overpass). Single 30’s guy and no kids. Both places are roughly the same price, Green Lake is $50 more per month. Which area would you pick and why? I’d rather not live near a bunch of noise and homeless encampments like I currently do, but I like having stuff outside my doorstep which both options offer. I also like affordable-ish options within walking distance. I like being close to the lake for running and light rail access is nice, but Phinney Ridge and Greenwood just seem like cooler areas for a single guy? I don’t know, can you help me decide? Also - is homeless getting worse around Roosevelt? I’m going to check out the areas tomorrow but wanted to ask your opinions. Thanks.
This past fiscal year, the state spent over $537 million resolving these claims, an all-time high. Just five years earlier, the toll was $100 million. [...] As of the end of June, the state's outstanding liability in these cases was estimated at $4.4 billion, according to an actuarial analysis. "The committee is very structurally set up to prioritize the concerns of state agencies and governmental entities," said Alexander Dietz, a committee member [...] "Survivor advocates are heavily outnumbered. There are no survivors on the committee." ~ The bill went from $100 million to $537 million because the misconduct kept happening, not because the lawyers got greedy. The committee studying the problem has seats for state agencies and none for the people they harmed.
Our best boy Vida had a medical emergency this am and we had to say goodbye. I was wanting to find a new artist in western Washington as my last artist left the area unfortunately. Pretty much willing to drive wherever I was hoping to get something very realistic of the photo above.

Two people financing efforts to stop a millionaires' income tax and to ban transgender girls from girls' sports are also financially backing the Center Square, a conservative national news operation with Washington State reporters covering those same measures. ... Between 2021 and 2024, the Chicago-based Franklin News Foundation, parent organization to the Center Square, was the top recipient of Project 42 funds. According to philanthropy.org, a nationwide donation-tracking website, it gave $3.1 million. In 2024, the same year that Project 42 had four initiatives on the ballot, it donated $1.2 million to the Franklin News Foundation for "media investigative reporting." ~ The same wallet pays for the ballot measures and for the newsroom covering them. Worth knowing which one you are reading before November.
My friend is looking for a trichologist. She’s not looking for any specific medical reason but more for an aesthetic one to combat frizzy and breaking hair. Does anyone have any recs in the area? Willing to drive as well!
Hey r/AskSeattle ! I just accepted an offer and I'm moving to Seattle in about a month. I'm really excited about the city, the job, and being close to so much nature, but I keep hearing about the "Seattle Freeze." People say folks are polite but hard to actually become friends with. For those who've lived here a while, or moved here in the last few years: is it still a real thing, or has it gotten better? Did the pandemic or all the newcomers change it? And if you did manage to build a social circle after moving here, what actually worked? Clubs, rec sports, climbing gyms, meetups, specific neighborhoods? I'm open to anything and willing to put in the effort, I'd just love some realistic expectations and a starting point.
