Bruh. The Seahawks didn’t even win, my dog almost broke his leg. WHY are people shooting fireworks downtown rn, is there something I’m missing?

We received 2 to our home just this week for speeding tickets - and one was for going 6mph over. Not in a school zone or anything. Obviously, we were speeding and can accept that happens, but curious if anyone else has received a few when they wouldn’t have in the past?

I am moving to Seattle with my wife and 6 month baby and looking for apartment suggestions for the first year till I figure out a townhouse or so. I heard lower queen anne is a nice area (also close to work) so would appreciate suggestions. Looking for a 1 bedroom apartment and my budget is around 2400-2800. Would also appreciate suggestions in other areas close to downtown.

Hello! I recently found out I am pregnant and I've made an appointment to establish care at Swedish FH. I've been seeing that Swedish is great but can get very busy/not very personal in their OB care. Does anyone have other recommendations/experiences they can share here with other OB offices/hospitals in the greater Seattle area? Thank you!

REI's website mentions that it's only open to members during their weekend open hours, they provide gear and staff belayers, but it doesn't mention anything about cost. Is it really free? That seems too good to be true. My kids have been dying to get on it for years (when it was closed)

In a statement , the company said 80% of the roughly 6,000 H-1B applications it filed last fiscal year were to extend or change the status of people who already work for the company. The rest were for new hires who were already living in the U.S. legally, a group equal to about 1% of its U.S. workforce. “They are not new arrivals to our country,” the company said. Tech industry reaction : “There has been a continuous, nonstop deluge of immigration-related news leading up to the midterms,” said Xiao Wang , Wang pushed back on Vance’s characterization of H-1B workers as “foreign indentured servants,” noting there are wage requirements to prevent underpayment of employees. “What I have been trying to warn folks about is the long-term chilling effects that would be detrimental to the long-term prosperity and competitiveness of the United States,” he said. Wang said the idea that the layoffs and recruitment of foreign-born workers are linked doesn’t make sense. “Layoffs and hiring are not one for ones of each other , especially at giant companies like Microsoft,” he said. Someone laid off from a gaming division at Microsoft isn’t interchangeable, for example, with an H-1B employee who’s an expert in agentic AI for a Copilot role, he said.

I have one rental unit in Tacoma (a condo I used to live in) and I'm also a tenant renting an apartment so I'm trying to dig into this initiative. I just moved into an apartment and I'm quite surprised by the amount of extra fees we have to pay. Parking, the power for the building in addition to our unit, fees to pay the fees. It's insane. This initiative doesn't seem to do anything to address those issues that add about $600 a month to our monthly rent. I'd have to unionize with my neighbors to bargain with my landlord. Does anyone have any experience being part of a tenant union? I want to learn more about some of the specifics about Measure 1 before I decide how I will vote, but there are no specifics in the full initiative... They want to require a per unit license. The Tacoma City Manager estimates that this initiative will cost the city $8 to $10 million dollars. Tacoma For All Campaign Manager Ty Moore has said the program would likely cost $1 million a year. Those are some wildly different numbers. It seems like the city of Tacoma has around 41,000 rental units, so at $10 million it would be $238 per unit per year, at $1 million it would be $25 a year. The city already requires that landlords have a state business license (I pay $50 annually) and City of Tacoma business license (I pay $190). Would landlords still be required to purchase those other licenses? How much will these licenses cost landlords? The other question I have is... how will these new per unit license fee not be passed onto tenants? How will this not raise my rent? Thanks in advance for the info!

Fellow Seattle residents! I have some questions regarding neighbourhoods and cars- and what would be best suited for someone like me :) Thank you in advance for taking the time to read, and I appreciate your guidance! :) Background: My North Star, my purpose of life, since time immemorial :p has been to move to Seattle. I’ve visited on and off over the past couple of years; seen downtown, Montlake (the Arboretum has etched itself into my mind…), Issaquah/Sammamish et al. I’m planning on moving in a few months. Neighborhood: In your opinion, what neighbourhood do you think is well suited for someone like me? I’m single, 31, F, permanently childfree with a remote job in tech. Ideal max base rent, to start with, is 1800 or below. I can push it to 2000 if I simply can’t find anything reasonable with that. Thing is, I would like to stay in one place for a few years rather than hop around due to rent increases. I am not looking to job hop or apply for a promotion at this point because I’m really happy with the work-life balance and stability. I do eventually plan on taking up another job in academia, ideally teaching undergrad students, but that's still a plan in progress. My only priorities are: Nature. Rain or shine, I would like to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Bellingham was one of my first considerations; I wanted to be close to Leavenworth and the North Cascades but I really don’t want to be so isolated. I don’t want to be in a metro area with buildings, but I also don’t want to be socially isolated: Community. Social life around hobbies such as running/biking/hiking or creative writing. I’d love to experience and get to know good people. Car: I absolutely love driving long distances and exploring new places. What type of Honda/Acura should I get? Currently lease a Honda Accord and will be returning the car a year early; still have to discuss those details with Honda Financial. I know that in order to avoid penalties, they will give me the option to lease/finance another Honda, or possibly Acura if I can fit it in my budget. With insurance, I am not looking to spend over 700 a month- I may get a good deal by returning my current car early since it’s in really great shape with very low mileage. Open to a crossover/SUV but not ideal since I don’t need the space but I do need something with good clearance! Priroties: AWD and long distance drives, want to drive through the pacific coast highway, national parks and forests. I would like to get out in the winter as well. Looking forward to hearing from you! Really appreciate you taking the time to read :)
