I'm looking to move to Seattle when my current lease is up mid next year and have a degree in Digital Media which was mainly focused on web development (although it was pretty broad in what it covered), but my portfolio is currently pretty bare bones. Would I be better off focusing on getting some certifications and looking for an IT job or working on some web projects to add to that portfolio. I find it a lot easier working towards something like a certification with a solid goal in mind rather than making projects purely to add to a portfolio with no real idea what I'm wanting to make but in the end it all comes down to what area I am more likely to get a job in.

I was at Crossroads Park yesterday and saw a teenager riding an electric motorcycle at a high speed on the pedestrian walking path. He was going fast, and a few times came very close to hitting young children who were riding their bicycle on the path. I called the non-emergency line, and the police arrived pretty quickly. I later saw officers speaking with the rider, and the young rider left shortly afterward. If you see someone riding an electric motorcycle in a Bellevue park, please consider reporting it to the non-emergency line. These types of motorcycles are not allowed in Bellevue parks. This is especially concerning at a park like Crossroads, where there are so many young children, families, and pedestrians using the walking paths. The motorcycle was moving fast enough that I was genuinely worried someone could get seriously hurt. Just wanted to share in case others have seen this happening too.
HELP ME FIND THIS GUY! 😂 I met a guy on the subway/light rail from the International District toward the Symphony. He asked me for directions to Pike Place, you were dropping off what seemed like tablet and we ended up chatting and hanging out for a few minutes at my hotel afterward. He gave me his Snapchat, but somehow I completely forgot to add him before I lost the contact. 🤦🏻♀️😂 If this sounds like you—or if you know who I’m talking about—PLEASE message me! I’d love to reconnect. 😭😂 Seattle, do your thing! 🫶

Less than one-third of pregnancies among the southern resident killer whales, as the endangered, fish-eating orcas of the Northwest are known, result in a young whale living to its first birthday. The endangered orcas' population stands at 76, down from 88 in 2005, when they were granted protection under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. The U.S. government listed Puget Sound Chinook as a threatened species in 1999. Most Puget Sound Chinook populations remain far below the recovery targets set by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). ~ Protection arrived in 2005 and the population has fallen every way you measure it since. Protection without salmon is a filing status, not a recovery plan.
I recently received a job offer to work in Seattle. I’m from Michigan. I’m married and have a 6 month old and a dog. Is it worth the move there? We have no friends or family in Seattle. How much income would be needed for this living lifestyle?
just opened my assessment notice for our place off 85th in greenwood and about fell over, went from $687,000 last year to $839,000 this year. ive owned here since 2019 and this is by far the biggest jump ive seen, way more than the last couple years combined i get that the market moved but a 22% jump in one year feels aggressive even for that. starting to look into the appeal process but the paperwork on the king county assessor site is a lot to parse through, and i think the deadline is early july so im trying not to drag my feet on this.
I’m (35F) moving from Florida to Seattle after this school year. I have a B.S. in Communication, M.S. in Special Education (K-12) and worked as a STEM/SPED educator in NYC for 5 years. I’ve been working in Florida as a teacher for a couple years (needed to move back home and tie up some strings here before booking it for good on the west coast) and now I’m trying to prepare myself for the job search in Seattle. I’ve been in one of the best and one of the worst states to teach in. What’s it like teaching in Seattle? Is it hard to get a (good) job? If you’ve taught in NYC or Florida, how did it compare to teaching in Seattle? I may be interested in non-public school teaching or training roles. Prior to all my education experience, I worked at a major aerospace company as a technician. Would Boeing be a place I could look into for communication or training jobs? As for applying to schools, I am certified in SPED and would prefer to stay within STEM, interventionist or resource positions. How competitive is it to land those jobs? What would the pay be like for someone with my education and work experience? Do you find a teacher’s salary to be enough to make it in Seattle? I am moving with my partner who is in Marketing/PR but would love to pivot to women’s health. What’s the market like there? Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated!
Hi everyone, I'm visiting Seattle in April, from 16th to 24th, coming all the way from Italy. I have read around that the best area to stay in should be Downtown, or at least where most hotels are. I'm wondering: are there any other areas that are not as expensive as Downtown ? I only found hotels for about 800/1000€ (about 900/1100 USD) and was wondering if an Airbnb or such might be better. I'm looking for places on the usual sites I use in Europe, like Booking or Trivago, but if you have better options please list them! Thank you in advance!
Sending this in desperation hoping someone can help - yesterday I was cycling along the Ship Canal from Fremont towards SLU between 9:45-10am. Somewhere between Chinooks and SLU my backpack came off my bike but I didn't realise until I got to work as I had headphones in, which I never normally do, but of course I was yesterday. The bag (large black laptop bag) contained almost an entire folder of personal information including passports and Visa docs. We're from the UK so I've cancelled all the documents I can but just feel sick to my stomach knowing my kids info is out there somewhere. I spent 6 hours looking on the trail yesterday, holding signs up during the commute in case any commuters had seen it. I know this is a long shot but if anyone knows anyone who saw anything please let me know. Or even other forums I can look on. I've filed a report with the police department and will check in daily to see if anything has been reported. Thanks all. Appreciate any help.
