Yesterday I was biking along the Burke Gilman through Fremont. I was passing the street market, and had slowed down to a gentle coast to avoid all of the market-goers that were absentmindedly meandering across the trail. I wasn’t bothered by most of the pedestrians, and avoided them quite easily. I was riding west, and at some point two other cyclists start approaching from the opposite direction fairly quickly, headed east. The pair of cyclists and I were about to pass each other, when a middle-aged meanderer who had been standing near the path for a little while decided she was going to cross at the exact moment and point on the path that I’m was going to pass the other cyclists. For some boneheaded reason, she saw the pair of cyclists coming from west and, without a modicum of spatial awareness or the common sense to wait literally a singular second for the path to clear, decided to JUMP across the other cyclists’ path (dangerously close to them), landing maybe a foot in front of me. I swerved and screeched to a halt and barely managed to avoid her by less than 6 inches. Fortunately, like I said, I wasn’t going that fast and had quick enough reflexes to avoid her, but a moving bicycle still has forward momentum and if I HAD hit her, it would’ve been ugly for both of us. I was so stunned by the sheer brainlessness of that stunt that I didn’t even yell at her, I just said “please pay attention when you’re walking” and she just laughed like she hadn’t almost just sent both of us to the hospital (bc I know that old crone would’ve crumpled into dust if I hadn’t managed to avoid her) Posting this partially for catharsis because I didn’t give that lady the verbal dressing down she deserved, and as a PSA to everyone to teach your boomer parents not to jump in front of moving vehicles. Just because a bike isn’t a car doesn’t mean it can’t royally fuck you up (not to mention the cyclist) (And btw I don’t a problem with normal pedestrians walking along bike paths, but, like with any traffic, the key is to be PREDICTABLE and not RANDOMLY JUMP into a vehicles path)

It’s been 2-3 years since I’ve run at Bridle Trails and thinking of doing some longer runs early in the AM - like 5AM. From what I remember, the biggest danger was huge horse poop and not much else. Anyone have recent early morning experience, or night time experience on the trails? Thanks

I live on a classic skinny Seattle street adjacent to a narrow alley, and a few days ago a large commercial box truck basically side-swiped the corner of my house trying to force itself through the tiny intersection of the two. Thankfully I was home and able to chase them down for their insurance info. I filed a police report and a claim with their insurance company, but now I’m trying to get estimates for the repair. Not only is a section of shingles damaged, but also the sub roof, the gutter, and at least one structural truss making up the gable (that’s also covered with aluminum siding that was damaged too). I’ve called around and almost all roofing companies don’t appear to do any structural repairs. Does anybody know a reputable one that does? Or will I have to go with separate roofing and construction companies? Thanks!

Me: a 32 year old bearded blond man wearing a floral sweater and "Vans" with a black goat and checkerboard on them You: a woman of similar age with a gold tooth, sweet tattoos and a dog I was having a beer yesterday afternoon with 4 of my friends on Figurehead's street side patio, as we all got up to leave you commented that you liked my shoes, I commented that I liked your tattoos! I thought you were quite cute and charming but wasn't sure if you maybe just liked my shoes. I thought my friends were trying to leave and didn't want to hold them up, so I kind of just waved goodbye. Upon walking away my friends all asked me why I didn't talk to you more or ask for your number! I'm a bit clueless. If you see this and also wished we could have chatted a minute more, send me a message!

Because "sewers" can be read incorrectly.... The St. Vincent de Paul store in Everett currently has four sewing machines which is unheard of. There are two older all metal machines including a Riccar 555 and also what might be a brand new Brother embroidery machine. Just a heads up if you are planning for the cold, rainy winter months activities! Spend! Spend! Make sure they're not there when I go back again. Okay?

I’m researching this 1970 B.B. King poster illustrated and designed by Seattle artist Dion Henderson. The poster is approximately 30.25 × 40.25 inches and includes the phrase “The feeling that unites.” I’ve been unable to find another example online and am trying to learn who commissioned or published it, whether it was connected to a Seattle event, and whether anyone remembers Henderson’s poster work from this period. I’m researching its history/provenance, not trying to sell it.

Does anyone know where the Junction Harvest Festival costume parade on the 25th starts and how long of a route it is? I want to walk in the parade with my baby but being on time with a baby can sometimes be a challenge so I want to make sure I know where I need to be haha

Midnight Cookie is no longer in this little building across the street from Juanita Beach near Juanita Village. Apparently they just moved into share the space with Spud Fish and Chips right next door. I’m glad they’re still within walking distance, as though they’re quite pricey for what they are, it’s been fun (imo) having a dessert option to grab a late night cookie or two without having to drive anywhere. But what do you think will replace it? What do you hope will go in or do you think the building itself will just be removed? It’s such a small little building and I wonder how much rent on it could be but it’s in a prime location
