Wild Waves has been part of Federal Way for years, and with its closure approaching, I took my grandsons for a Halloween visit. The three-year-old got to experience his first roller coaster ride, his younger brother happily screeched through bubbles, and we made some family memories I'll always treasure. I also reflect on what the park's loss means for the community, the jobs that will disappear, and the redevelopment proposed for the property. I wrote about our visit and saying goodbye to a place that was just becoming part of our family's story. https://medium.com/@difrntdrmr/waving-goodbye-601d2af5a338?sk=54fd05a36bcef28cb84f126d43e488eb

When the program launched in 2018, the Navy estimated it would cost at least $21 billion over 20 years. At Puget Sound alone, there are 50 modernization projects completed, underway or proposed at about $19.6 billion, including the planned dry dock. Demolition is scheduled to begin next year, with construction of the new dry dock planned for 2030 and completion targeted for 2038, according to the GAO. ~ The estimate grew roughly tenfold before a shovel hit the ground, and the dry dock still is not due until 2038. That is not a budget, it is a placeholder.

What the title says! After finishing up our residency at Freehold Theatre in the International District, we're super thrilled to be back in Renton and at Luther's Table for another improv comedy show! Come see us Friday, October 23rd, at 730pm! We'll be performing a completely improvised musical , with a live musician making up songs with our performers on the spot based on your suggestions! For those who don't know us, Take 5 Improv started with a bunch of us improvisers who live in the Renton area who got real tired of having to drive into Seattle to perform. Since then, our cast has grown, but if you've seen our shows before you'll see many familiar faces at this one! Tickets are still pay what you wish with a suggested donation of $10 at the door! Cash or card accepted. And as always, Luther's Table also provides refreshments by donation as well! Hope to see (and meet) some of y'all there! https://preview.redd.it/yba8ywfzeavh1.jpg?width=1620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbe183b83e05aed3ec790f5f1b9679060b72eff8

My OBGYN works out of the UW Ravenna clinic and the default birth location is UW Montlake, though I think delivering at UW northwest might also be an option (not positive). I recently learned from a doula interview that labor and delivery care at Montlake is primarily run by residents - there’s an OBGYN there but you rarely see them, and sometimes you might have a 2nd/3rd/4th year residents all come in and check on you/discuss your status, and so you might end up with many extra people in your room. The doula also mentioned that if a C-section was needed, doulas are often not allowed in the operating room at Montlake (more space is needed for all the residents so doulas frequently get excluded). Of course new doctors gotta learn, but her description is giving me pause about the potentially highly chaotic experience UW Montlake might be relative to Northwest. For folks that delivered at Montlake, could you comment on your experiences? 1) Were you negatively impacted by a resident-heavy care team, or did you not really notice? 2) If you had a c-section and a doula, were they actually prevented from joining you during the procedure? Thanks!!

Has anyone here ever gotten a little too drunk one night and made the stupid decision to drive and then get a dui? Seems the courts only answer is a fine & alcohol/drug treatment or jail time which is understandable completely and I’m not disagreeing with that. What I’m wondering is are all of these outpatient treatment programs in King County the same? Do they all attempt to brainwash you into believing you’re an alcoholic/addict? Is there a treatment program meant for or easier for someone who made a one off mistake and is legitimately not actually suffering from alcoholism or drug addiction?

Forget ghosts, goblins and things that go bump in the night. We've got four letters that'll send a shiver down any driver's spine: B-U-S-Y.That's right, another weekend of closures is creeping up on us. Inspired by true (upcoming) events. Rated B for BUSY. Coming to a freeway near you Oct. 16–18: NB I-405 CLOSED in Bellevue - Closed between SE 8 th St to NE 4 th St. from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19. The following ramps will also close at this time: SE 8 th St. on-ramp to NB I-405 and NB I-405 off-ramp to NE 4 th St/NE 8 th St. (Exit 13 A/B). Crews will pave, install concrete panels and set an overhead sign structure. NB I-5 CONTINUED LANE CLOSURES across Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle - Reduced to two lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge until the end of 2026. The express lanes will remain open NB-only 24/7. EB I-90 LANE REDUCTIONS in Snoqualmie - Two right lanes of EB I-90 closed from east of SR 18/Snoqualmie Parkways to SE N Bend Way, 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Maintenance crews will use this closure make bridge deck repairs. You know that friend who looks over at you right before the jump scare in a horror movie? Yeah, that's us. Except instead of ruining the movie, we're giving you a heads-up about weekend closures. Check the travel maps, know your route before you go and give yourself extra time to get to that pumpkin patch. Paint map of road closures (Oct. 16-19)
